Dr Jaiteerth Raghavendra Joshi, Project Director, Defence Research and Development Laboratory (DRDL), Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Missile Complex, DRDO, Hyderabad has been conferred with the prestigious Institution of Engineers (India) Bharat Ratna Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya Award – 2020 in recognition of his significant R&D contributions in the development of Missiles and Aerospace Systems & Technologies. The award was conferred as part of Engineers Day celebrations on 15 September at IEI, Hyderabad.
Dr Jaiteerth Raghavendra Joshi is a senior defence scientist and renowned for his R&D in the design & development of advanced missile systems and technologies for numerous defence and aerospace applications. He obtained B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering from Osmania University and Ph.D in Mechanical Engineering from NIT Warangal.
He has made wide ranging contributions for Prithvi, Agni and as Dy Project Director LRSAM, he led the development of many mission critical technologies. In his career spanning three decades, Dr Joshi has contributed immensely in the fields of missile technology, NDT and skill development of industry professionals. As Chairman of Indian Society for Non-destructive Testing (ISNT), he trained and certified more than 600 candidates in Level-I and Level-II of Radiography, Ultrasonic, Magnetic Particle and Penetrant Testing.
He has been inducted as Fellow of many scientific/professional bodies including Institution of Engineers India (FIE), Indian Institution of Production Engineers (FIIPE), Indian Society for Mechanical Engineers (FISME), Indian Society for Non-destructive Testing (FISNT) and Telangana Academy of Sciences (FTAS). He is Chairman of ISNT and Indian Institute of Welding (IIW), Hyderabad Chapter.
For his distinguished contributions, Dr Joshi has been conferred with numerous awards and honours including, Scientist of the Year, Technology Group Award, Distinguished NDT’ian of the decade by ISNT, National Technology Day Award, DRDO Award for Performance Excellence and IIM SAIL Gold Medal.
