Bengaluru: Two indigenous ‘Made in India’ Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) MK III with modern avionics and systems enhancing capabilities were inducted into the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) in Bengaluru.
The aircraft will be based at 845 Sqn, Kochi. These are 9th & 10th ALH in the series of 16 ALH which are being inducted into ICG, the Indian Coast Guard said in a tweet on Wednesday (February 2).

Defence Secretary Dr Ajay Kumar congratulated ICG on Twitter. He wrote, “Indian Coast Guard has been championing #AtmaNirbharBharat for its platforms. Took lead in inducting ALH Mk-III of @HALHQBLR. ALH Mk-III is best in class hptr. Congrats @IndiaCoastGuard @DefProdnIndia @defexpo2022 @SpokespersonMoD @SIDMIndia @Prodef_blr @ASSOCHAM4India @dprohyd (sic).”
The ALH MK III aircraft is manufactured by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) and represents a tremendous leap towards self-reliance in the field of military aircraft, in line with the government’s push towards ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’.
ALH Mk III is a multi-role, multi-mission versatile helicopter in 5.5 tonne category. It has proven its mettle in various utility role including numerous lifesaving missions during natural calamities in India and abroad.
More than 335 ALHs have been produced till date logging around 3,40,000 cumulative flying hours. HAL also ensures technical assistance and product support to the customer to ensure healthy serviceability of the helicopter.
