Shri S. Somanath, Chairman, Indian Space Research Organisation – ISRO and Secretary , Department of Space, Govt. of India is inaugurating the 7th Aerospace and Defence Manufacturing Show – ADMS 2022 at Bangalore.
The seventh edition of Aerospace and Defence Manufacturing Show (ADMS), a unique exhibition-cum-seminar event aimed at the comprehensive growth of India’s aerospace and defence manufacturing sector, was held at BEML Kalamandir, Bengaluru during 28 and 29 July. ADMS, an annual event organized by Aeromag Asia in association with SIATI, was held after two years due to the pandemic.
The show witnessed huge participation with around 900-plus people and around 350 companies attending as exhibitors, business visitors and delegates over the two days.
S Somanath, Secretary, Department of Space and Chairman, Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) inaugurated the show in which Amit Banerjee, CMD, BEML, was the chief guest. The inaugural event was attended by Air Vice Marshal P.S. Sarin VSM, ACAS – MP, IAF, Rear Admiral Deepak Bansal, ACNS (Air Material), Indian Navy Dr. C.G. Krishnadas Nair, President, SIATI, A K Srivasthava, Director- Defence BEML , Dr. Mayank Dwivedi, Director, Directorate of Industry Interface and Technology Management ( DIITM), DRDO Head Quarters among others.
In his inaugural address, Somanath said that ADMS focused on manufacturing sector in aerospace and defence, a domain which is very complex and challenging. The main challenge is ensuring manufacturing of products in a cost-effective manner. He said that a long-term commitment from the private industry is needed in promoting the production of products in aerospace sector. He said that it is applicable to the space sector too.
“We are able to manufacturing systems, but when it comes to production in large volumes, we face several challenges. What we need for industries to survive today for a long time is to ensure a long-term commitment from private players in the sector. For that there must be business opportunities and companies should be able to make profit,” Somanath said.
He said that many companies are venturing into space sector at a time when India is trying to create a supply hub for space programmes. “I see huge potential for the private industry in the space sector. Opportunities are there along with challenges. Satellites become an integral part of communication, 5G and IOT etc. Space sector is ready to boom further. We look forward private companies to be strong partners in the space industry,” Somanath said.
During the technical session, Somanath talked elaborately on ‘Partnering with ISRO in the Indian Space Programmes. Sharing Technologies and Resources with Private Industry’.
Other technical sessions saw presentations by representatives of major defence PSUs and private companies. The event was supported and sponsored by Govt of Karnataka, Uni Mech Aerospace, Grauer and Weil, KINFRA from the Kerala state Govt., Hexagon , MSC Softward, Phillips Corporation and Invest in Bavaria.
