L3Harris Delivers Key Propulsion Systems for GPI Program

L3Harris Technologies has announced that it will provide two essential propulsion systems to Northrop Grumman for the Missile Defence Agency’s Glide Phase Interceptor (GPI) program, a defensive weapon intended to defeat hypersonic glide vehicles.

“Our propulsion technology has been a cornerstone of national defence for decades, and through this program, we look forward to continuing to develop modern, cost-effective propulsion solutions to support our warfighters,” said Ross Niebergall, President of Aerojet Rocketdyne, L3Harris. “Our innovative and reliable solid rocket motor technology will help the GPI program strengthen the deterrence posture of the U.S., allies, and partners by adding another layer to our regional defensive architecture.”

L3Harris will supply a large solid rocket motor for first-stage boost propulsion, along with an advanced version to power the third stage of the interceptor missile.

Solid rocket motors are among the many products L3Harris manufactures to support both offensive and defensive systems, which include air-breathing scramjet engines, divert and attitude control systems, warheads, and various missile technologies.
